   A Typical Day at LECC

 
               
 

   

Arrival & play in gym:  Train table, climber, trampoline, hollow & unit blocks, doll house, floor puzzles, coloring, cutting, gluing, stringing, shaving cream, play dough, etc. Through open play time, children learn cooperation, sharing, taking turns all while developing gross and fine motor skills, building self confidence, and fostering friendships.

 

Circle time:  Jesus story, songs, poems, finger plays, music, a pledge to Mother Earth or the flag, and math or language arts activities.  During this time, children develop age-appropriate attention related skills such as listening, self control, and how to participate in a group.

 

Snack time: (LECC is peanut & tree-nut free) Beginning with a blessing, children learn the joy of sharing food, table manners and the importance of proper nutrition and cleanliness.

 

Free Choice time:  Directed art activities, easel painting, housekeeping, manipulatives, science exploration, story telling, texture table.  Skills reinforced during this time are imaginative play,  cooperation, exploration, getting along with others, problem solving skills, self confidence and participation in clean up.  

 

Story time:  Children enjoy various styles of story presentations:  a resident story teller dramatizes on our classroom stage, flannel board stories, DVD presentations, as well as Caldecott award books.  While using their imagination to "see" the story, children practice their listening skills and self control.  

 

Outdoor play:  Outdoor activities based on the season promote physical fitness through "good old fashioned" play as well as reinforcing sharing, taking turns, and enjoying nature.Dismissal:  Select an overnight, take-home book before singing a dismissal prayer.

Throughout the year, LECC hosts a number of special events.  Some of these are:

Class Picture Day

Hop-a-Thon for Muscular Dystrophy

Open House

End of Year Picnic

In addition, the 4 year old class enjoys field trips to local attractions such as Cosley Zoo, Klein Creek Farm, Brighton Park, Willowbrook Nature Preserve, and The Morton Arboretum.
